Syllabus (Semester-wise):
The Certificate in Taxation provides specialized knowledge in the field of direct and indirect taxation in India. It equips students with a solid understanding of tax laws, tax filing procedures, and tax planning strategies, with a focus on both individuals and businesses.
Semester 1:
Introduction to Taxation: Overview of the Indian tax system, types of taxes (direct and indirect), constitutional provisions, and basic tax laws.
Income Tax Laws: In-depth study of the Income Tax Act, 1961, income tax calculation, tax slabs, exemptions, and deductions for individuals and businesses.
Tax Filing and Returns: Procedures for filing income tax returns (ITR), tax assessments, e-filing procedures, and rectifications of returns.
Tax Deducted at Source (TDS) and Tax Collected at Source (TCS): Concepts of TDS and TCS, related provisions, filing of TDS/TCS returns, and generation of TDS certificates.
GST (Goods and Services Tax): Introduction to GST, GST registration, filing GST returns, composition schemes, and practical aspects of GST compliance.
Semester 2:
Corporate Taxation: Taxation of companies, MAT (Minimum Alternate Tax), dividend distribution tax, and tax on company profits.
Tax Planning and Management: Strategies for tax planning and optimization for individuals and corporate entities. Emphasis on ethical tax practices.
International Taxation: Basics of international taxation, double taxation avoidance agreements (DTAA), transfer pricing, and tax treaties.
Customs and Excise Taxation: Introduction to customs duties, import-export taxation, excise duties, and procedures for compliance.
Capstone Project/Internship: Practical experience in taxation-related work, such as assisting in filing tax returns, tax audits, or working with tax advisory firms.
