Company Secretary (CS)

Course Overview:

The Company Secretary (CS) course is a professional certification course in corporate law and governance, regulated by The Institute of Company Secretaries of India (ICSI). CS professionals manage the legal aspects of a company, ensuring compliance with corporate governance and other laws. They play a critical role in corporate affairs and business operations.

Duration:

The duration of the CS course can range from 3 to 5 years depending on when the student begins (after 12th grade or after graduation) and the completion of all three levels.

Syllabus (Semester-Wise / Level-Wise Structure):

The CS course is divided into three levels:

1. CS Foundation (Equivalent to Semester 1 & 2):

  • Paper 1: Business Environment and Law

  • Paper 2: Business Management, Ethics, and Entrepreneurship

  • Paper 3: Business Economics

  • Paper 4: Fundamentals of Accounting and Auditing

2. CS Executive (Equivalent to Semester 3 - 6):

Module 3:

  • Paper 7: Corporate Funding & Listings in Stock Exchanges

  • Paper 8: Multidisciplinary Case Studies (with case laws)

The CS course is relatively affordable. The approximate fees are as follows:

  • CS Executive Fees: ₹9,000 per module

Exams to Attend:

  1. CS Foundation Exam: The first step for 12th-passed students. Graduates can skip this step.

  2. CS Executive Exam: Divided into two modules, this exam is conducted after the Foundation (or directly for graduates).

  3. CS Professional Exam: The final level, which requires passing the Executive stage and can be cleared in three modules.
